Die Menschen begehen den ersten Advent und die folgenden im kleinen Familienkreise. Sie beginnen ihre Wohnungen zu schmücken und stellen einen Weihnachtsbaum auf. Das kann eine Tanne oder eine Kiefer oder eine Fichte sein. Aber immer ist es ein Nadelbaum. Manche Leute stellen auch ein Gesteck aus Zweigen von Nadelbäumen auf den Tisch oder einen Lichterbogen ins Fenster. Zu einem Gesteck gehören meistens vier Kerzen. Am ersten Advent wird eine Kerze angezündet und an jedem folgenden Adventssonntag eine weitere.

Silvester ist ein fröhliches Fest am 31. December. Es ist vor allem ein Fest der Erwachsenen. Sie feiern das Ende des alten und den Beginn des neuen Jahres.
